Overview
In the 2018, the DIABETES Across the LIFECOURSE: Northern Australian Partnership commenced work in addressing youth onset type 2 diabetes.
Our work with young people and their families includes:
- research to explore the experiences of young people with type 2 diabetes
- work with health services across the NT, Far North Queensland and the Kimberley to find out how many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people were living with diabetes and to work with health professionals on enhancing models of care and creating resources to support young people
- research to tailor diabetes prevention programs to the Central Australian context (2019-2020), and implementation and evaluation of Merne Mwerre Artweye Areye-ke Program (childhood diabetes prevention program in remote Australia) (2023-2027)
- the development and evaluation of peer-led education and support programs for young people with type 2 diabetes (Doing It Together, 2023-2025) and
- promoting better outcomes for young people with type 2 diabetes by working with young people, communities, and health professionals through piloting screening methods, and integrated and holistic supports (INSPIRE, 2023-2028).
